Fred Page announces Moose Dinner moved from September 16 to September 15 due to Community Hall availability. Dinner served 5 to 7 30 p m with Leo Hadley as chef. Door prize is a Parker-Haley rifle open to nonmembers. Next meeting is September 2. members urged to bring a junior member.
The bear season opens this Saturday marking the first big game season of 1971. Early elk and deer hunts in Idaho's more primitive areas are slated to begin within the next two weeks.
The 1971 Moose Hunt drawing sponsored by the Bonner County Sportsmen Association named Stew DeSchamps of Hope as winner. President Fred Page was chosen by the winner to join the five day all expense paid trip to British Columbia.
Panhandle Racing Association sponsor Bill Dorn announces first event at Colburn on Sunday September 5 with time trials at 1 pm and races at 2 pm followed by a Demolition Derby. The group promotes auto motorcycle and snowmobile racing in Bonner County and expects a large turnout.
Oliver Construction crews near finishing grading on the Kootenai Cut-Off linking US 95 with North Boyer Avenue. A four section concrete bridge spans Sand Creek as Idaho funds 48 000 to replace the narrower Boyer Avenue to ease peak season traffic for Schweitzer Basin. County Commissioner Brockway expects completion before Thanksgiving and ready for the ski season.
A lightning caused blaze early Tuesday morning destroyed the Vey Store in Hoodoo Valley leaving Harold Hester and family homeless. The 50 year old country store leased from Roy McCure burned to the ground within 410 minutes. loss estimated up to 20 000. The Nester family received local aid as gas pumps and four outbuildings were saved.
Gale Barfuss, secretary and board member, announced the Kootenai Pondera Water and Sewer District will lift current taxes on members. The board plans to fund future indebtedness from expected revenue, indicating no further taxation will be necessary.
