Bonner County Fair crowns dairy and cattle champs

The Bonner County Fair drew a large crowd as exhibits were removed after the fat stock sale. Top honors went to H K Paisley for the best dairy cow and overall champion, with multiple breeds led by Herefords and Charolais taking top spots. Open class beef showcased five breeds and several local farms earned multiple grand championships. Prices at the fat stock sale remained strong with lambs at 1.50 per pound, hogs 60 cents and steers 60 cents. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with possible thunderstorms today and Wednesday.

Six New Fires Start in Kaniksu National Forest

Six new spot fires were started by last night’s lightning in the Kaniksu National Forest. Fire officials said spotters found them last night and confirmed at daybreak. Weather is dry lightning with gusty winds and no rain, and the end of the fire season nears around September 15. The last contracted helicopters were released to the Clearwater National Forest amid rising fire threats in the Orofino area.

Travelers Told Cholera Peril

The U S Public Health Service warns Americans traveling to cholera affected regions to receive two protective shots before departure, as some countries require two injections for entry. Affected nations include Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Burma, India, Nepal, Libya, West Pakistan, Turkey, Korea, Israel, Lebanon and the Soviet Union. Countries mandating vaccination proof for visitors include Guinea, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia and the United Arab Republic.

Man With Ax Damages Jet At Miami International Airport

Thomas William Brow 38 a carpenter faced federal charges after he hacked 18 holes in a Eastern Airlines Boeing 727 at Miami International Airport over an al leged dog death dispute with Eastern Brow claimed he bought paint and an ax to paint his porch and cut a rubber tree but then damaged the jet estimating the damage at 200000 to 5 million when asked about the incident Brow cited heat prostration of his dog and said the airline refused to cover a life insurance claim Brow was to be arraigned before US Commissioner Edward Shaw on the destruction of a vehicle charge.
