Hofmeister cleared in Idaho first wife murder case

The nine man three woman jury in Lewiston found Everett Hofmeister Jr. not guilty of murdering his wife June Hofmeister in Sandpoint. Hofmeister, 44, announced plans to seek Idaho Attorney General on the Democratic ticket, pledging to expose state investigator abuses and taxpayer costs.

Corps Extends Comment Period on Dredge and Fill Rules

Senator James A. McClure of Idaho announced the U S Army Corps of Engineers extended the public comment period on proposed dredge and fill regulations to December 5. He urged alignment with Environmental Protection Act guidelines and noted the request to protect farmers during harvest. Timber Volume Hits Low in Northern Region Forests

In fiscal year 1975 the Northern Region National Forests harvested 939 million board feet of timber, down 10 percent from 1974, with 974 million board feet sold across 3 084 sales. Uncut volume under contract stood at 2 980 million board feet, about three years of demand, indicating an imbalance with mill needs and a slack market.
