Idaho college enrollment up over 13 percent
The Office of Higher Education reports Idaho senior colleges and universities enroll 20 227 full time students this fall, a 13 29 percent rise from last year. Growth centers include Boise State College and Lewis Clark Normal School with large percentage gains. concerns include funding for expanded graduate and vocational offerings.

The Secret Service said record 3 million dollars in counterfeit notes circulated in the year ended June 30, up 4 percent from the prior year. The total number of counterfeit notes fell 1 percent to 189,903 while most forgeries target $10 and $20 bills.

Miner Francis Murinko Dies in Lucky Friday Mine Rockburst
The mangled body of Francis Murinko, 40, a 16 year veteran miner, was recovered Thursday from under debris after a rockburst at the Lucky Friday Mine near Mullan. His brother Michael escaped. Murinko is survived by nine children, three brothers, three sisters, and his wife who died last summer.

A sheriff auction raised 13000 toward the 44798 claimed on a chattel mortgage held by Sandpoint News Bulletin Inc against PP&S Products Inc. Laurin Pietsch and Gary Pietsch led bids with Gary as high bidder at 10000 for the former factory building and 1755 in equipment. Don Wilmus bought 1135 in gear, Doug Davis acquired two filing cabinets as about 20 people attended the sale at the PP&S site north of Sandpoint.
