Tribe Keeps War Charge After Land Bill For Kootenai
The Kootenai Tribe with 67 members says its war remains on hold until a 128000 acre reservation is created. Tribal manager Doug Wheaton notes a 12.5 acre land gift signed by President Ford is modest and may have been delayed in Congress for years. The tribe began a nonviolent war Sept. 20 to press for a large reservation. Senators Church and McClure pledged to push legislation in the next session.
