City Considers Four Applicants for Chief of Police

Sandpoint City Council to interview four applicants for chief of police after adopting criteria from a committee. If none qualify, extra applicants will be sought. Temporary patrol hires may be added to allow the new chief to select staff, with recommendations from the Sheriff's Department.

Compromise proposal rejected as recall moves forward

A city council vote rejected a compromise to halt recalls of Mayor Les Brown and Councilman Bud Benoit. Jim Judd of a citizen group said the recall effort will proceed, claiming no council cooperation and stating petitions are ready for distribution at 107 N First. Judd predicted the recall would succeed.

Coyote carcass misidentified as dog skinned alive

Bonner County sheriff records reveal the supposedly skinned dog was a coyote carcass. Leo Black trapped coyotes on Bill Keane property, which had calves reported as losses. Deputies confirmed the carcass was a coyote, not a dog.

Special Prosecutor Frost pledges active probe in Hofmeister case

Special Prosecutor Robert Frost told reporters in Boise that the Hofmeister homicide investigation is moving forward and not being dragged out. He said data is under review to decide the next steps and that he will work from the Boise office to save costs, with in person visits when needed.
