Students Meet To Talk Ecology
About thirty high school students met October 13 at a Newport home to discuss ecology and plan activities with three local teachers, Dean Stevens George Mund and Larry Shaw. The group pledged to cut non essential electrical devices and promote lifestyle changes to reduce environmental impact while supporting a Washington State bottle tax referendum and efforts to remove styrofoam cups from vending machines. Local projects include highway improvement on Highway 2 between Newport and Priest River and a cleanup campaign at Priest River High School camps.

Burglar Strikes Priest River Area Home Steals Rifles
Deputy Sheriff Waly Mitchell reports a break in at D. R. Lee’s house about five miles from Priest River. Two rifles and an antique clock were taken while Lee was visiting Monatana friends. The burglary occurred between Sunday and Thursday last week and is under ongoing investigation.

Dover Man Collides With Calf on Farm to Market Road
A Dover man escaped injury when his car struck a calf entering the highway from a roadside ditch on Farm to Market Road north of S H 200. Dennis Ray Karst, 20, of Dover, told State Trooper Jerald Johnson there were no injuries and no citation was issued. The calf died at the scene. Meanwhile the Thama Rocks project on U S 2 S H 200 east of Priest River nears completion with asphalt paving planned this Fall. The eight mile construction from Clark Fork to the Montana line is by N A Degerstrom Inc at a cost of 333162 dollars.

Granddaughter Dies in Africa in Automobile Crash
Mr and Mrs Mel Nesbitt of Sandpoint received word that their granddaughter Relusca Lynch was killed in an automobile accident in Nairobi Kenya. The Lynch family headed toward Sandpoint with the body and will fly to Spokane on flight 714. Funeral plans are pending.

County Bazaar Set for Two Days at Sandpoint Hall

Owen L. Raine of Priest River led the oral auction by Kaniksu National Forest for the Nickleplate timber sale set aside for small business. The sale northwest of Nordman covered white pine with minor species, appraised at 64,296.20 rising to 76,880.00 for 4230 MBF sawlogs and 110 MBF pulplogs. other bidders were James L. Norton and Idaho Veneer Co.
