Governor Andrus To Speak At Sandpoint Chamber Banquet

Tickets on sale for the annual Installation Banquet to be held Thursday October 21 at Sandpoint Community Hall. Governor Cecil Andrus will address a combined Sandpoint and North Idaho Chamber audience during the three day fall meeting. Master of Ceremonies Everett Hofmeister will oversee the event with remarks by President Bill Nordeen and coverage of North Idaho Chamber activities. The event includes sessions moving to Bonners Ferry for a morning program and panels on local economy and land management.

Jaycees Sponsor Meet Candidate Night in Sandpoint

Bill Fournier secretary of the Sandpoint Jaycees announced that the group will sponsor a Meet Your Candidate Night on Tuesday October 19 at 8 p.m. at the Sandpoint Community Hall. Five City Council candidates will each speak five minutes, then take questions from the public, followed by one to one discussions. The Sandpoint Jaycettes will serve free coffee and doughnuts. Local media will attend and interview candidates on key issues.

Morton outlines district curriculum plan and Southside high school idea

Trustee Venus Verhei told School District 82 board of possible future Southside high school to serve about 170 students and cut transport costs. Dr. William Morton praised the five year curriculum improvement plan as a progress sign and noted his upcoming installation as Idaho association president at Twin Falls conference November 3 to 6.

District Board Considers Behavioral Objectives to Grade Teachers

School District 82 trustees heard Superintendent Dr. E Wayne Likens describe using behavioral objectives to evaluate teachers by student achievement. The board also discussed kindergarten positions under the federal act, PTA planning, leaves of absence policy, new hires, and property boundary actions at the Colburn School site.

High School Voter Registration Program For Idaho Students

A joint release from Secretary of State Pete Cenarrusa and Superintendent Del Engelking announces a student voter registration drive in Idaho high schools during the last week of October 1971. County officers will register students 18 and older during school hours at Sandpoint Priest River and Clark Fork high schools, with eligibility rules and an August 8 1972 primary deadline noted. The program targets expanded electoral participation for youths and other eligible residents.
