Sandpoint Jaycees hear TIP program on drugs and arrest data

Sheriff Bob Wilcox and Chief Deputy Dave Hare presented TIP at the Sandpoint Jaycees meeting in the Pastime Panhandle Room. The display showed confiscated drugs and gear from Bonner County with 54 information calls since February and one arrest.

Plan Would Merge Police and Sheriff Depts

Payette Idaho plan to merge Payette City Police Department with the county sheriff office was revealed by Police Chief Sam Sower. It would need approval from the county commissioners and city council. Sower also plans to challenge incumbent Sheriff Richard Hayes in November. The proposal excludes New Plymouth and Fruitland unless they opt in.

Hereford Show Judge Gibbs Rehm Named at American Royal

Gibbs Rehm manager of the Selkirk Hereford Ranch Sand Point has been chosen by the American Hereford Association to judge the 1972 Paul Swaffer Register of Merit Hereford Show during the American Royal in Kansas City October 16 17 and 18. He will judge Breeding Classes at the second largest Register of Merit Show and has previously judged the National Western in Denver in January. In another set of actions Texas lawyers argued at the Supreme Court that life begins at conception and the unborn fetus is a person with constitutional rights in an abortion case while Mrs Sarah Weddington defended a group seeking to overturn the state law.

Idaho Receives 1.6 Million for Recreation Projects

The Interior Department's Bureau of Outdoor Recreation will provide 1.6 million dollars to Idaho for recreation development. Funds will be matched by state and local governments for Jensen Grove Park in Blackfoot, Aberdeen Sportsmen's Park, American Falls Marina, Lewiston City Golf Course, Payette and Meridian pools, and St. Maries Recreation Area.
