The Sandpoint City Council will hold a special session at 7 30 pm Monday to select a new mayor to fill the late Les Brown's term. The next regular meeting moves to Tuesday at 8 pm due to Columbus Day.

Theft Report in Samuels Area Rouses Local Sheriff Interest

A theft in Samuels was reported after $305 worth of items vanished from an unlocked car. The owner says the vehicle, parked at the end of Bourassa Drive, contained two new snow tires with Bridgestone rims, a 12 volt generator, three sets of chrome lug nuts, a gear shift handle, and tires under the dash. The sheriff’s report noted the incident.

Timber slash burning near Trout Creek clears 85 acres

The US Forest Service reports 85 acres of bulldozer pile burns in the Trout Creek area east of Sandpoint, with 80 to 100 more acres left to burn. Weather will stay mild through Saturday then cool next week, and operations may continue for a month depending on rain. Broadcast burning is less preferred than dozer piles due to risk and expertise.
