Sandpoint Police chiefs suspended amid officer ultimatum
Acting Chief Willard Piehl and Sgt Gene Holt were suspended from the Sandpoint Police Department after five junior officers demanded their immediate termination. Mayor Les Brown said the department will be under Bonner County Sheriff’s Office control until a new chief is appointed next week. The five officers signed a letter threatening mass resignations if Piehl and Holt remain, citing workload unfairness and nonperformance. Brown noted possible action against the signatories and left replacement decisions to the forthcoming chief.
