Dr. Wilber C. Hayden, extremely ill with cancer, received cards from a host of friends Sunday delivered by a small group.
Gene Reed named fire chief of the Northside Fire Association replacing Bob Lyons with a six month term. Gary Tyler and Harry Roberson named first and second assistants as the department praises cooperation from Sandpoint and county law enforcement during recent fires.
Outstanding Sandpoint High School football players will be named at an open banquet hosted by the Bulldog Bench at the Pastime. Jerry Kramer Trophy, Outstanding Scholarship Trophy, and Jim Hunt Trophy will be awarded to lineman, scholar, and inspirational player respectively. SHS officials will present 30 letters and honor 16 seniors, 11 juniors, three sophomores, and team managers.
Sandpoint placed one athlete on the IEL all star defense as Mike Williams earned a linebacker honor. Moscow led with seven players on the team while Sandpoint and Wallace each had one. The Lions finished fourth in offense and sixth in defense with totals of 1148 yards and 1705 yards against.

Mrs Don Engle 47 was reported in satisfactory condition with a broken pelvis after her car left Highway 95 near Algoma about 11 a.m. Monday. Bonner County Sheriff Howard Scott said icy conditions caused the rollover and the vehicle passed over the woman. She was taken to Bonner General Hospital by ambulance.
