Sandpoint Names Riverside Cop Richard Abbott Police Chief

Richard Abbott age 33 of Riverside California was unanimously approved by the Sandpoint City Council to head the City Police Department. Mayor Les Brown and several council members praised his qualifications while noting the salary drop from California. Abbott thanked the council as colleagues expressed confidence in his leadership.

North Idaho Chamber Plans November Legislative Tour

The North Idaho Chamber of Commerce will host its annual convention and legislative tour November 17 to 20 with visits to Schweitzer Basin Pack River Lumber and Tenex Plant Dover plus tours of Sandpoint Coeur d Alene Kellogg Wallace mines and timber and agricultural sites. Legislators meet at the Elks Club November 18 at 10 am for an informal session then visit Schweitzer and Sandpoint lunch at Edgewater with local officials. Citizens may contact the Chamber to meet legislators or join the luncheon arrangements.

Questionnaire Results Coming to Sandpoint Town Hall

The Congress for Community Progress questionnaire results will be aired at a Sandpoint town hall on November 21 at 7 30 p m in the Community Hall. One thousand one hundred twenty six copies were returned. A slide show A Stranger Comes To Sandpoint by Doug Simmons will be shown. A panel led by Bud Moon will answer questions. The panel includes Mike Lamanna Marian Ebbett Bill Watkins Bob Kalb Wade Brown Jim Brockway Bill Powers Herrick Heitman and Clarence Reed. The Nu Phi Mu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi is thanked for tabulating the results.

No Complaint Filed Over Senior Sneak at Munson Home

Bonner County prosecutor Dan Featherston said no one has requested a complaint about a senior sneak beer bust at Sandpoint physician J. P. Munson's home. He would not discuss possible charges or targets and noted a complaint, if filed, would come from investigative sources and not Munson himself.

Senior Citizens Land Deal Finalized in Sandpoint

The Sandpoint City Council approved finalizing the Bonner County Senior Citizens land offer for a new center on W Main across from Price-Rite Meats. The deal, first raised July 8, included occupancy and financial feasibility conditions and followed debate over Pine Street Park as an alternative site.
