Power Outage Cause Found

A faulty conductor on a 110000 volt line between Sandpoint Idaho and Cabinet Gorge Dam caused a Wednesday power outage. Washington Water Power Co officials said they had not yet determined the exact cause of the conductor failure. Major communities affected included Ione and Newport Washington Sandpoint Idaho Troy and Libby Montana with about a substation’s worth of power lost across a wide area. Hospitals invoked emergency generators during the outage.

Walter Diesem Set as Kiwanis District Lt Governor

Walter F. Diesem USA Retired Army Colonel will be installed as Kiwanis District Lt Governor in a Monday noon ceremony at the Pastime Panhandle Room. The outgoing lieutenant governor Chris Taft of Bonners Ferry resigns for personal reasons. Diesem retired in Sandpoint with wife Glen and has two grown sons living in New York State.

Japan Car Makers Halt U.S. Dealer Expansion

Tokyo based Nissan and Toyota announced they will stop expanding their U S dealer networks amid potential U S import restrictions. Nissan notes 920 U S outlets. Toyota reports 881 outlets as of August. both firms began U S sales in the early 1960s with rising volumes in 1969 and 1970 UPI report.

ISLA Shareholders To Get Returns

The Idaho Savings and Loan Association liquidation will pay a 12 percent return to its shareholders by December 15 from the final sale to Western National Corp of foreclosed real estate. The company held about 2.5 million in assets, plus funds from collections and investments, adding to the 46 percent previously paid in 1967 and five percent earlier.

Shareholders to receive 21 percent from 1969 funds

Remaining funds to be disbursed by McEldowney and Barbour include money from Continental Life and Accident Co Boise from the sale of assets consisting of outstanding loans. Total to 21 percent, not 12. Checks for distribution to about 14,000 shareholders to begin by December 1.

Idaho Water Resource Board votes 6 1 to join the Teton Dam litigation as a friend of the court rather than as a full defendant, despite opposition. A Boise hearing is set for Nov 22 as the board weighs practicality against potential conflicts of interest and precedent.
