City officials request donations of trees for parks and ask residents to contact Bob Linsday or Jack Leckner at City Hall. The program can move trees up to six inches in diameter and up to 25 feet tall, and the hole left by removal will be filled with dirt.
Workers begin the final phase of a 147000 project at the Bonner County Fairgrounds funded mostly by an EDA grant. Project supervisor Bob Sleep says a crane will install ten laminated wooden columns to support a new metal roof capable of withstanding 50 pounds per square foot and snow load, with completion before winter.
Idaho Supreme Court upholds Willie Wright's 1974 conviction for robbing a Pocatello grocery with a knife, in a 3-2 ruling that trial references to his refusal to identify himself at arrest did not prove prejudicial error absent specific prejudice. Justice Shepard notes closing arguments recording error but not constitutional prejudice.
Boise UPI report: The state director of administration told the Vista Lions club he will compete with private firms in providing services to state agencies to save taxpayers money.
Janet Hay of Nampa urged the Idaho School Boards Association to raise local tax support for education. She cited 34 districts passing override levies as a sign patrons will pay more. Hay pressed greater local input on statewide policy and noted underfunding despite rising per capita income.
Department of Lands officials and sheriff's deputies conducted a three hour search in Soldier Creek area Boundary County. Hunter Bill Mask was found safe about 10:05 AM with three foresters and a patrol plane dispatched. A patrol plane spotted a campsite where he was located.
