Senate backs higher Social Security tax on employers

The Senate approved raising Social Security taxes more for employers than employees, while rejecting a plan for equal tax shifts. The bill would lift the maximum employee tax to 2390 in 1987 and employer tax per worker to 5287.50, with House action proposing equal rises to 3024.60. Senator Curtis warned that shifting burden would slow growth and hurt institutions with high paid staffs including the University of Nebraska.
