Voters Hit Sandpoint City Elections With Key Races

About 1003 voters registered to cast ballots today in Sandpoint with polls open from noon to 8 pm at the City Fire Hall and broader Bonner County sites. Two women contest the Sandpoint city council against incumbents Bert Lines Robert Kalb and George Harper, while Hope reshapes with mayoral candidate Frank Hallett and Dale Anglin and a three way council race.

Pend Oreille Lake Drawdown Projects Substantial Drop

Lake Pend Oreille fell to 2055.7 feet in October as drawdown continues. Forecasts show a daily decline of 0.15 to 0.2 feet, reaching about 2051 feet by November 30, then stabilizing between 2051 and 2051.5 feet until spring to protect the Kokanee fishery before peak spawning in early December.

Hunter Missing After Oct 26 Search Underway in Idaho

Spokane hunter Michael Nickerson, 20, disappeared during a five day hunt near Whiskey Rock east of Lake Pend Oreille. Bonner County Sheriff Robert Wilcox said an airborne deputy scans the timber for his vehicle as agencies in nearby counties are alerted.

Youth Cited In Mishap At Sandpoint Intersection

Sandpoint youth Daniel Young aged 17 was cited for failure to yield after a two car crash at Division and Michigan streets as he left Sandpoint Senior High School parking lot. James S. Gaston 19 sustained no injuries while passenger Debbie Lawson 17 was treated and released from Bonner General Hospital.

United Press International reports Senator J William Fulbright after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting on the defeated foreign aid bill said the consensus was to do something rather than nothing. Air Search For Hunters Unsuccessful In Idaho

Sheriff Bert Mecham led a renewed air search for missing Californians Jim Zeller and Ron Sanders since Sunday in central Idaho. Deputies and two search planes scoured the rugged snow covered terrain near the Salmon River basin but by late morning no trace had been found. State aeronautics chief Darrell Manning reportedly accompanied the effort though officials would not release details.
