In a student mock election at Sandpoint High School 607 ballots were cast. Guthrie topped Harper while Ford narrowly defeated Carter in statewide style races. Several local and state races reflected similar margins with notable support for LaRouche and Maddox among write-ins. Terry Iverson notes 90 percent accuracy in past elections and cautions about expectations this year. Results from Priest River and Clark Fork were unavailable at press time.

Halloween vandalism and thefts reported in Sandpoint area
Sandpoint saw minimal vandalism due to heavy rains on Halloween night but earlier weekend crimes included a car stolen from Pete's Truck and Auto Salvage in Sandpoint with two Colburn juveniles arrested. A blue 1946 Harley Davidson motorcycle was stolen from a Glen Newton residence near Cocolalia. Boise Vandals broke six windows at Colburn School and other minor property damage with no set damage estimates. A county pickup and canopy stolen last week was recovered, and a mobile home fire south of Old Town destroyed the trailer contents. No further details released by the Bonner County Sheriff's Office.

A logging truck caused a timber spill on U S Highway 200 near the Bonners Ferry junction when a side stake broke. Randy Ross, 20, of Sagle was not injured as the trailer flipped and logs spilled, delaying traffic for minutes. The truck belongs to E Gage and Sons of Sagle and the salvage crew collected the timber later that morning.
