Zone 3 election shifts power on Vernon Allen defeat

Darrel Kenops, 32, Forest Service employee from Hope, defeats Vernon Allen for Zone 3 School Board, unofficially 197 to 171 with four reporting sites and 368 votes cast. Beeson and Bopp win in Zone 1 and 4 respectively. new trustees sworn July 9. Kenops takes a three year term, Bopp two, Beeson three.

Subdivisions Study Details Bonner County Land Sales

A four month study for the Bonner County Planning and Zoning Commission reports 7,132 acres subdivided since 1893 containing 6,192 lots five to twenty acres each. About 78 percent sold, with over half zoned recreation open space and 14 percent agricultural land. Recreation open space subdivisions in Priest River lake areas show 89 percent sold. Pend Oreille area about 57 percent. The list notes 60 unrecorded subdivisions totaling 13,660 acres with 1,800 lots, 96 percent sold, indicating roughly double the number of recorded plats.

BCEA Protests Andrus Over Senior Sneak Complaint

Truby Seeks Idaho State School Superintendent Post

Democratic candidate Roy Truby told the Daily Bee he favors shifting more school funding burden from property taxes to the state. He would maintain a sound financial base without tax increases and supports kindergarten access, career training, and equity in athletics funding. Trailer House Burns Owner Not Located

Ronald Brown, 31, of Sandpoint, owns the burned trailer on Kootenai Cutoff Road. Firefighters found the structure engulfed on arrival and a preliminary search found no body. Cause is under investigation. Brown remains missing amid concerns he may have been inside.

Brand S plans $3 million saw mill near Laclede

Brand S Corporation will present a preliminary plan for a $3 million saw mill to be built near Laclede pending a zone change from agriculture suburban to industrial for 50 acres. The facility would employ about 100 workers and sit beside the Burlington Northern line, with environmental standards from its Portland mill guiding design.
