Bonner County soil survey underway by U S Soil Conservation Service
The U S Soil Conservation Service begins a county wide soil survey in Bonner County, with Chuck Weisel and Barry Turner mapping soils over about 450 800 acres. Field work concentrates south of the Pend Oreille River and will take three to five years to complete. Data collected will be released as areas are completed for public use in subdivisions farming and development planning.

Authorities alert that Wesley Allen Tuttle an escapee from Idaho State Penitentiary may travel toward St Maries Spokane and the Canadian border. He was last seen leaving Eagle Island Ranch in a gold Plymouth Duster possibly with a 1965 red Mustang and may be armed and dangerous.

Woman Seriously Injured In One Car Roll-over Mishap
A 61 year old Yakima Way resident, Vivian T. Fisher, was reported in fair condition in Bonner General Hospital after a one car rollover five miles west of Clark Fork. Her Buick Skylark skidded on gravel, went airborne, and struck an embankment, flipping end over end. Fisher suffered facial, shoulder, chest, and leg fractures and was trapped until a wrecker righted the car.
