Tornado Ravages Lubbock Texas in Sudden Widespread Destruction
A powerful tornado struck Lubbock Texas Monday night tearing an eight mile swath through the city. At least 26 people were killed and as many as 1 000 injured as water and power failed and hospitals ran on auxiliary power. The disaster overwhelmed the city as emergency crews rushed supplies from nearby Mule Shoe Texas. Officials warned the tornado may have destroyed large blocks of homes and businesses and caused extensive structural damage including the 20 story Great Plains Life Building.
