Sandpoint committees plan joint meeting on U S 95 bypass
The Sandpoint Planning and Zoning Commission agreed to join with the Chamber of Commerce Highway Committee and the Traffic and Safety Committee to draft a unified U S 95 by pass and interchange proposal. The plan aims to reduce First Avenue traffic, with five relocation options, and will be presented to the State Highway Board at Elk's Lodge on Thursday May 16 at 9 30 a m.

Southside OKs Water and Sewer District Bonds
Southside voters approved the Southside Water and Sewer District measures with 96-17 for sewer and 92-21 for water. Board chair Allen Cochran said a two thirds majority was required to secure general obligation bonds. The district has already secured over 100000 in sewer grant money and plans for 142 hook ups with eventual 350. FHA funds of 60400 become available after a failed application. Norma Strecker Prison Term Is Suspended
Former Bonner County assessor Norma Strecker was sentenced in District Court to five years in the state penitentiary for misuse of public money, but the term was suspended. Judge James Towles granted two years unsupervised probation with no restrictions. Defense attorney Everett Hofmeister called it dramatic. Strecker had pleaded guilty earlier to one count after grand jury indictment. Prosecutor Dan Featherston noted probation could be adjusted after restitution talks and said she deposited public funds to a non special account.

Tragic Night Crash Claims Bistline Girl
Shelly to Bisthine 22 of Sandpoint died when her car collided head on with another vehicle two miles south of Sandpoint near Long Bridge. Four others were injured including Richard Gance 20 Roxy Ames 18 Neal Edwards 21 and Penney Karst 16. Authorities said details are sketchy and the cause is under investigation. Edwards was hospitalized with a severe knee injury. The Bistline vehicle had just turned onto the highway from Fish Hatchery Road when the crash occurred.
