Bomb threat leads to year expulsion for two Sandpoint youths

Two Sandpoint Junior High students were expelled from Bonner County schools for one year effective April 24 after an April 23 alleged bomb threat. One student attended the Thursday hearing with his mother and the other’s parents present. Board members Vernon Allen Marian Ebbett and Jack Bopp voted to expel. trustees Verhei and Beeson were absent. Allen called it a difficult duty and hoped for no more threats. The decision followed an executive session.

Kay Anderson Becomes Bonner County School Board Candidate

Mrs Kay L Anderson of Priest Lake announces her bid for Bonner County School Board Trustee Zone 1. She emphasizes outreach to parents teachers and voters and stresses student engagement while promising to study policy before statements. She is a parent of three and a 1958 University of Idaho graduate with teaching and substitute experience.

Southside Voters Choose Water and Sewer Plans May 9

Southside Water and Sewer District voters will cast two ballots on May 9 at the Wagon Bridge Inn from noon to 8 pm to decide water and sewer bonds. A two thirds approval is needed to access FHA general obligation loan funds. grants totaling 100 000 for sewer and 60 400 for water are available if approved. Absentee ballots are obtainable from the County Auditor.

General Trout Season Opens in Northern Idaho 1974

The 1974 general trout season starts tomorrow in the lowland lakes of northern Idaho. Anglers may fish for Kamloops and Dolly Varden in Lake Pend Oreille, with other northern lakes open except MacArthur Reservoir until May 25. Pend Oreille River downstream to Albeni Falls Dam stays open year round. Cocolalla Lake received 8000 catchable trout recently, and its creeks remain closed until the general stream season opens. Nygren Promoted to Land Use Planner in Northern Region

Harold T. Nygren 35 of Sandpoint Idaho promoted from multiple use coordinator in the Idaho Panhandle Forests Sandpoint Zone to land use planner at the Northern Region headquarters in Missoula. He reports May 12 succeeding Gerald J. Courant. Nygren holds forestry degrees from Michigan Tech and Yale and served two years in the U. S. Army. He is a member of several professional societies.

Sandpoint names first Junior Miss Connie Woodland

Connie Woodland a 17 year old Sandpoint High School junior was named Sandpoints first Junior Miss and earned a chance to compete for the state title in December. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Woodland. About 550 people attended the Jaycee sponsored pageant at the Panida Theatre the first ever held in Sandpoint. The program offers 600000 in scholarships bonds and awards at local state and national pageants. Woodland received a 150 bond and a trophy and a 25 bond after winning the Youth Fitness Award. Barbara Greenleaf was first runner up with a 75 bond and trophy. Randie LaGrace won the Poise and Appearance Award and received two 25 bonds. The five judge panel included Trudy Holderly and local officials. Virginia Dawson received the Friendship Award. Other honors went to Kerry DeSoto and Barbara Greenleaf. Sponsors included local clubs and businesses such as the Elks Club Idaho First National Bank and Kiwanis. Entertainment featured Ivy Rockwell and Robin Wieber. Miss Sandpoint Claudia Dewey presented the awards. Escorts included Robin Wieber Kevin Smith Matt Jones and others.
