Miners Memorial Day Proclaimed After Sunshine Mine Disaster

In Kellogg Idaho Gov. Cecil Andrus proclaims miners memorial day on the anniversary of the 1972 Sunshine Mine fire that killed 91 miners. The disaster remains Idaho history’s worst mining tragedy with 108 survivors and a final toll of 91. The mine reopened seven months later but closed again after a strike, and production recovered to 3.8 million ounces in 1974.

Jury acquits Mel Morgan in credit report case

A U S District Court jury acquitted Mel Morgan a Pocatello jeweler after two hours deliberation on charges of using false pretenses to obtain a congressional candidate's credit report. The judge had previously acquitted Morgan and Rose-Marie Bowman of conspiracy in obtaining the same report on Republican George Hansen. Morgan a Boise state party treasurer and Bowman are Democrats. Hansen later sued Morgan for 2 million dollars and defeated Orval Hansen in the GOP primary and won the general election.

Pet Alerts Man Of Fire In Laclede Home

Mr and Mrs Labin Evans of Laclede awoke early Tuesday to a blaze in their living room traced to a faulty wire. Their German Shepherd alerted them by nudging and growling before Evans and neighbors fought the fire. no injuries reported though extensive damage occurred.

School District 82 Trustees Review County Building Plan

The School District 82 Board has held three of five meetings on a long term building program for district schools. The Daily Bee previews the meetings and outlines the proposed plan and process. Trustees welcome input, written or oral, until May 16.

Phoebe Senft assistant administrator of Bonner General Hospital retires after 32 years in nursing with 29 in Sandpoint. A buffet luncheon featured a This Is Your Life style presentation honoring her career at the Old Old Hospital and successor facilities. More than 200 friends attended as memories were shared by colleagues and officials.
