Joe Swendig announces the merger of The F. G. Harrell Agency with Larry Larson & Associates of Idaho. Swendig becomes president and will oversee Sandpoint and Yager Agency client service while Larson assists and handles the Coeur d'Alene business. The merged firm now offers 26 insurers to place coverage.
Mrs. Jim Jackman a Moscow Junior High School teacher was chosen Idaho Outstanding Young Educator by the Jaycees at the state convention in Boise. A Sandpoint High School graduate of 1958 she later earned a University of Idaho degree. daughter of Mr and Mrs Don Engelen long associated with Sandpoint now in Albany Oregon.
Governor candidate Cecil Andrus will speak at an open public meeting in the Northern Lights hostess room on Saturday May 9 starting at 8 p.m. All interested persons are invited to attend.
Fair conditions continue through Saturday with warmer temperatures. Highs around 65 and overnight lows near 40. Rain chances remain near zero as the weekend progresses.
Iz Lefebvre, coach for Sandpoint boxers, says a fourth of July event with Lions Club celebrations is planned after a successful recent card. Sandpoint boxers Mitch Tarpley, Larry Davis and Dick Gance traveled to Chehalis, Washington, earning unanimous decisions. Tarpley 70 lbs used reach to disrupt, Davis 85 lbs relied on counter punching, and Gance 125 lbs pressed, scoring a first round knockdown en route to a decision over Gary Gardippee, 1970 Northwest Junior Champion.
The Bonner County Youth Athletic Assn reports progress toward a junior tackle football program with about $2,000 raised or pledged toward a $4,000 goal. Treasurer Bill Dowling notes initial $300 in bank and ongoing work on programs concessions publicity scheduling and registration as the plan nears realization.
In Sand Point on May 1 VFW Post 24538 and allies sponsor a Loyalty Day parade with flag ceremonies and a public meeting. The event forms at Old Farmin School at 4 30 p m and moves along Pine Street to First Avenue.
Coaches umpires dads mothers and fans urged to attend a Sandpoint Youth Baseball organizational meeting Monday May 4 at 7 30 p m in the Washington Water Power hospitality room. The session covers Pee Wee Little League and Pony leagues as the program enters its 20th year with about 400 boys expected to participate. Elmer Jacobson presides Howard Faux is secretary treasurer Ken Pratt and Dr Angus Snedden active helpers.
