Army Pfc Michael H Richards Killed in Vietnam Rites Held
Full military honors were given Thursday for Sp4 Michael H Richards son of Mr and Mrs Guy Richards. He died Monday morning in Vietnam at 7 15 am while departing a night position after detonating a mechanical explosive device. Richards stationed at Chu Lai ICOR region served in Company B First Battalion 46th Infantry 19th Light Infantry Brigade 23rd Division Americal. He would have turned 21 May 10. Survivors include parents a brother and sister and several sisters and brothers in Idaho Wyoming Montana and California. Burial was at Grandview Cemetery with military and civic honors.

The administration office of School District 82 reports six nominees for the Zone 2 Trustee seat vacated by Dr. J. P. Munson who joined the Idaho State Board of Education. Leroy Self is the latest filer. others include Jim Baugh Dale Pelton Norman Sommerfeld Marian Ebbett Bud Moot Vernon Ruen Roy Turnbull and David Beeson. Zone 3 incumbent Vernon Ruen seeks reelection. Zone 1 has Roy Turnbull and David Beeson filing. deadline is April 2.

Miller named Information Officer for CAP Pend Oreille squadron
Kenneth R. Miller, Sandpoint Daily Bee newsman and editor, appointed Information Officer for the Pend Oreille Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol in Sandpoint. Squadron Commander Maj. Don Nan Gundy announced the post with Miller receiving Chief Warrant Officer rank. Miller is a Korean War veteran, former Marine aviator, Air Medal recipient in 1953 for 22 missions, and logged over 400 hours of combat flight.

Andrus threatens veto over education and health bills
Idaho Governor Cecil D. Andrus said he will veto the education and health appropriation bills and add new appropriations in a special session. He argued 44 million for education is too low amid school closures and potential 1,500 student additions to public rosters. He warned local taxpayers would feel the bite if funding comes from the state. House leaders warned of a long session and possible sales tax increases to cover higher general fund spending.
