City officials warn Sandpoint and surrounding areas face a growing water emergency. The only feasible remedy is a water rate increase approved by the council to fund aging lines and a needed larger feed between the filter plant and storage tank.
General Telephone announces a spring upgrade linking 30 local offices across northern Idaho and Montana to a new long distance switching center in Coeur d'Alene. The project, started two years ago, will let customers dial 1 for long distance and involves four conversion dates from May to June.
Mostly fair conditions with a slight warm spell through Thursday. Highs near 45 today, 50 Thursday, and lows around 25 tonight with near zero precipitation chances.
Police and sheriff deputies evacuated Sandpoint Jr and High Schools after a bomb threat. A search found no bombs. Investigators narrowed suspects and warned that false reports of explosives are a felony under Idaho Code 18 3315. A separate court ruling upheld a flag protest as expressive not defilement.
Mr and Mrs Jay Hess of Ponderay announce the sale of J and J Manor to Mr and Mrs Richard Andersen of Hope Idaho. The Andersens former Riccardo's Pizza Parlor owners in Sandpoint took over operation this week. Nancy Andersen will run the new ownership. A remodel and expansion planned to start in about a month. The Chateau is slated to reopen May 1 as a steak house and supper club with charcoal display cooking. Dick Andersen will stay in insurance with Metropolitan Life while Nancy runs the restaurant.
In District Court Judge Dar Cogswell heard arguments from plaintiffs and school representatives over a policy allowing suspension or dismissal of a pregnant student. The court ordered the district to retain the girl in school and set a later date for a ruling.
Five downtown Sandpoint stores AEW Ben Franklin J C Penney Sprouse Reitz and Wards will stay open until 8 00 PM every Friday starting March 20. This marks the first Friday evening openings since Christmas and Friday Specials will be featured in the Daily Bee.
