Senate panel hears Bromley deny bribery link to Gen Cole

Martin J. Bromley testified under oath before a Senate Investigations subcommittee denying the charge he offered $50 000 to former Brig Gen Earl F Cole to remain silent about alleged military corruption. Bromley said he never met Cole and provided sworn statements with hotel receipts showing he was in Madrid Spain during the Frankfurt meeting. The subcommittee has described his operations as a worldwide slot machine syndicate linked to service clubs and PX operations.

Sandpoint Junior High to Present March Concert

The Sandpoint Junior High music department will stage a concert on Thursday March 18 at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium. The chorus directed by Mrs Meehan and the band led by Mr Lange will perform pieces for spring festivals at Bonnérs Fort and Moscow later this year.

Senate Approves Penny For Cities in Idaho

The Idaho Senate voted 33 to 2 to approve a House bill directing one seventh of state gasoline tax revenue to cities, potentially boosting city funds by over 3.8 million dollars. Sen. Art Contest Winners Named in Sandpoint Event

Winners announced by Mrs. Eula Wedderow for the Bonner County School Art Contest. Judges Lilly Keene Neil Kenney and Gary Pietsch, Sandpoint Art Club members, led the judging. 10 Percent Social Security Benefit Increase Approved

Congress approved a 10 percent across the board hike for Social Security benefits covering 26 million Americans. The House acted in the morning and the Senate completed action within two hours, retroactive to January 1, marking the first major measure of the new Congress. The move was attached to the debt limit bill raising the limit from 395 to 430 billion dollars.
