Car Train Crash Fatality Reported in Algoma

Northern Pacific reported a car train collision at Algoma with a fatality and Idaho State Police en route. Sheriff and Coroner to be contacted. ambulance notified. later updates mention a road slide on Talache Road and multiple minor incidents through Sunday including a speeding bond and a drive in disturbance.

Old Cookbooks Now At Library

Sandpoint Public Library rehoused two old cookbooks for checkout. The 1906 Sandpoint Cook Book by the Ladies Aid Society includes ads reflecting a frugal era, and the 1922 Tested Recipes by the Civic Club’s Home Economics staff contains handwritten notes from the Nell K. Irion estate.

Two Idaho Grand Islanders Die In Separate Accidents

Steven P. Potter 15 of Grand Rapids Michigan died after an auto accident on March 15. He was a Central High School junior and Amway distributor with ties to Sagle Idaho. Sherman F. Davis 77 of Sagle died March 13 in a car train crash near Sandpoint Idaho. He owned a John Day Oregon creamery and is survived by a large family across Oregon Idaho and Washington. Funeral services and interment are planned in Michigan and Oregon.

Law Men Return From University

Bonner County Sheriff Bob Wilcox and Sandpoint Chief of Police George Elliot returned after completing a three day course at the University of Idaho for Idaho police chiefs and sheriffs. The program was presented by the Bureau of Public Affairs Research in cooperation with the Peace Officer Standards and Training Advisory Council.
