City Hikes Water Rates For Ten Year Repair Plan
City Council unanimously approves a $2.00 monthly water rate increase starting April 1 to fund pipe replacement and repairs. The move, tied to a ten year plan, is expected to raise about $42,000 annually for system improvements. Also named eight members to the Sandpoint Traffic Safety Commission and offered moral support for a junior tackle program. A Keep Idaho Beautiful award was presented to Sandpoint, with Civic Club plans to beautify approaches to the new Sand Creek bridge.

Commissioners View Ambulance Service
Bonner County officials revisited indigent ambulance coverage after Sandpoint Ambulance Service failed to aid an indigent on February 25. The county had paid $250 monthly under a prior contract now expired, with oral renewal at $325. In 1969 the county paid $3,900 while regular charges would have been about $1,500. On December 29, 1969, Sandpoint demanded $400 monthly and would not treat county calls the same as public calls. The board rejected the higher rate, noting not the service quality but the cost. A February 25, 1970 call was not answered. The commissioners seek a solution while affirming indigents’ right to public ambulance service.
