County deputies seek higher pay amid costly on call duty

Bonner County Deputies urged the County Commissioners to raise wages citing a negative take home after expenses. Chief Deputy Dave Hare detailed salaries from $441 to $725 monthly and about 12,478 overtime hours in 1973, with 34,269 hours since 1971. He noted six of twenty deputies lack health or life insurance due to cost.

Sandpoint Traffic Panel Debates Bike Racks and Meter Hours

The Sandpoint Traffic & Safety Committee discussed installing 12 bicycle racks at a total cost of 552 dollars and potential bike routes citywide. They debated amending a 1946 meter hours ordinance from 9 am to 6 pm and possibly ending enforcement at 5 pm. Chief George Elliot defended courtesy parking tickets for out of state vehicles, noting certain leniencies and record keeping.

Kokanee Fish Kill Report Near Dworshak Dam

AHSAHKA Idaho UPI a state fish and game official said thousands of Kokanee salmon fingerlings were killed earlier and now 10 to 14 inch fish are injured or dead below the Dworshak Dam The official suggested fish pass through the dam and die from spills or turbine passage.

Ehrlichman Accused in White House File Removal Case

A UPI report states grand jury indicts former White House aide John D. Ehrlichman for conspiracy in the 1971 Beverly Hills burglary and for four counts of lying to the FBI. Others named include Charles Colson and Liddy, Barker, Martinez, and DeDiego. penalties up to 30 years and 50,000 dollars.

About 25 people attended the first sheriff's reserve officer training meeting at the courthouse Thursday night. Operations officer Brian Timblin said many more called in and would apply, with the deadline extended to March 21.
