Ernest Chester Belwood Dies in Spokane at 52

Ernest Chester Belwood long time Laclede resident died Wednesday March 3 in a Spokane hospital at age 52 born February 6 1919 in Salida Colorado moved to Bonner County in 1933 member of the Eagles Lodge of Sandpoint and an operating engineer. Survivors include wife Nita Graves three daughters a son seven grandchildren a brother two sisters and in laws. Funeral services are set for Saturday March 6 at 1 p.m. Moon Chapel with Rev John Nelson officiating and burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Farmer gets 90 days for tire damage in Columbia Basin

Robert W. Peterson a 45 year old farmer from Royal City Washington was sentenced to 90 days in jail on three counts for placing steel spikes on a hay truck tire along Highway 26 near his home last August 19 in the Columbia River Basin. Judge Raymond F Kelly said the sentence could be shortened if Peterson repays the truck owners for the damage. Peterson had been the state s chief suspect in more than 80 haystack fires in the Columbia Basin last August.
