Local Food Stamp Abuse Concerns Highlight Bonner County

Missing 9 year old Kari Watts in Bonner County

Kari Lynn Watts, a 9 year old Indian girl, disappeared after leaving her Wrenco Loop home Tuesday night. Sheriff Robert Wilcox neighbor confirmed she did not reach his home and neighbors have not seen her. She is described as 4 feet 9 inches tall, slender, black hair, barefoot, wearing yellow shorts and blouse. Call Bonner County Sheriff at 263 3136 or family 263 4416 if seen.

Public Hearing Sheds Light On Brand-S Mill At Laclede

Bonner County planners set a public hearing for tomorrow night on Brand-S Corp of Corvallis Oregon seeking a 100 acre conditional use permit at Laclede for a small log mill expected to employ about 100 people with a payroll over 1 million dollars annually. Opponents fear river pollution and noise while supporters including the Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce welcome new industry.

Storm Damage To Booms Won't Free Driftwood

Ken Coffman, project engineer for the corps of engineers at Albeni Falls Dam, said wind damage to booms on the Clark Fork River likely won’t allow driftwood into the lake. He noted no major damage besides possible minor impacts, with the lake at 2065.29 feet at midnight and 8 am, down two tenths from Tuesday. Flow from upstream is decreasing and without rain the lake should fall faster over the weekend.

Wind Fanned Three Fires Across Bonner County

Wind driven fires broke out near Laclede and Wrenco Loop last night. A train sparked a small blaze west of Laclede, contained to under an acre. Westside Fire District volunteers fought a second fire six miles west, caused by an electric fence shorting in high winds. A third incident involved a tree limb snapping a power line in Wrenco Loop, briefly cutting power before containment.
