Sandpoint considers business tax plan amid vendor concerns

At a Chamber lunch in Sandpoint merchants rejected a proposed business and occupation tax while some attendees supported limiting transient street vendors. The ordinance targets resident merchants with a $10 annual fee and nonresident or temporary traders with a $100 annual fee or a $50 daily charge for short-term sellers. Critics warn the measure could expand and raise prices, arguing it may curb trade and clash with constitutional rights. A revised draft is planned for July 5 committee review.
