Three Vehicle Collision on Long Bridge Near Sandpoint

A three vehicle crash on the long bridge south of Sandpoint at about 10 45 Saturday injured two passengers and led to the arrest of Richard Bennett 24 of Star Route Sandpoint by Cpl. Ron Bruce Idaho State Police. Bennett was charged with driving too fast for condition.

Weather outlook with scattered showers through Tuesday

Cloudy conditions persist with scattered afternoon and evening showers or thunder showers mainly near the mountains. Temperatures show little change with a 4 percent rain chance today, 5 percent tonight, and 4 percent Tuesday. Highs around 80 and lows near 55.

Commuters Flee Tunnel Fire at Grand Central

More than 500 commuters fled a dark smoke filled tunnel today when a fire broke out on railroad tracks leading into Grand Central Terminal. The blaze started by a short circuit on the third rail disrupted Penn Central service with no serious injuries reported.

Bear mauls man in Burgdorf area near Idaho City

Max Peterson a 54 year old Walla Walla farmer and part owner of a gold mine was found mauled and decomposed about 54 miles southeast of Riggins Idaho. He had last been seen May 31 and relatives urged an intensive search before Idaho County Sheriff Gene Fuzzell and Prosecutor Roger Swanstrom found the body. Authorities say Peterson and his two dogs were killed by a mother bear after he killed her cub.

NICC Plans Sandpoint Area Tour for Legislators

The North Idaho Chamber of Commerce releases tentative plans for a November 16 Sandpoint area and Schweitzer Basin tour for state legislators and elective officials. Co chaired by Norman Kestern Wallace and C Patrick King of Coeur d Alene. part of the fall meeting November 15 to 18 at the Coeur d Alene Convention Center.
