Trustees of School District 82 approved an eight point attendance policy at a July 17 special meeting guided by Dr. E Wayne Likens. The policy sets minimum attendance to earn credit, requires makeup of missed work, limits absences, seeks parental involvement, labels truancies as serious and may lead to Juvenile Court referrals.
Fair and warm conditions persist in Sandpoint with partial cloud cover. A 10 percent chance of rain remains through Saturday as mountains may see thundershowers. today’s high near 90 and tonight’s low around 60, with Saturday reaching about 85.
Bonner County commissioners held a special meeting to address inadequate ambulance service citing poor communication. They demanded an updated listing of safety equipment and crew certifications from Sandpoint Ambulance Service while noting vehicles may fail federal standards and the on duty claim.
Governor Cecil Andrus announced a 120 day plan to tighten horse entry rules into Idaho due to the National Junior Rodeo. Texas horses are barred during the period and horses from Oklahoma Arkansas Louisiana and New Mexico require a permit. Other states’ horses must have a health certificate.
The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce announces Crazy Days on Saturday July 31 hosted by the Retail Merchants Committee. Main activity centers on First Avenue and Cedar Street with outdoor sidewalk displays and special low prices. Merchants and clerks dress in bizarre costumes for a carnival mood as shoppers browse downtown Sandpoint. The event is a mid summer tradition and a thank you to customers with drastic price reductions.
