Airport Mechanic Begins New Service in Bonner County

Elmer Dexter formerly of Bangor Maine was sworn in by Bonner County Commissioners as the new mechanic at the Bonner County airport through his Aero-Dex firm. Dexter, an A P technician and commercial pilot with land sea and helicopter ratings, will work with Airport Manager Chuck Courier’s Flying Service though operations remain separate. He has a background with the Maine Forest Service and the Air Force as a flight engineer and plans to gain word of mouth as he completes initial small jobs for a growing clientele. His family includes wife Sally C and eight children, with the couple choosing Spokane area for settlement after a dart decision.

Motorbike Registration Due July 1

Effective July 1 1972 all off highway motorbike owners must apply for registration at the county assessor's office. The $3 fee funds the State Motorbike Recreation Fund the Department of Law Enforcement Motor Vehicle Fund and the County General Fund. The sticker remains visible and legible through June 30 1973.

No Arson Found in Boise Old Soldiers Home Fire

Boise police arson investigation finds no evidence of arson in a fire at the unoccupied Idaho Old Soldiers Home. Boise Fire Department responded with three engines and 10 firefighters Sunday night. Fire crews reported the blaze started in the basement, initially suggesting possible arson.

Fair Fees Apply to All Bonner County Users

The Bonner County Fair Association previously stated a three dollar per hour setup and removal fee for fair building use. It has now been clarified that this charge applies to all users including community groups and individuals.

EPA Urges Fast Action On City Sewage Problem

A Sandpoint EPA public hearing urged immediate action to address unsafe water around the city sewage outfall. Nelson Grubbe cited survey violations and discussed grants, noting the need for a secondary treatment plant to abate discharges into the Pend Oreille River. The Saxon and Kennedy firm reported 75 percent leakage in joints while preparing cost estimates.
