Teton Dam Haven of Leaks Paid For by Officials

Bureau of Reclamation geologists warned of potential hazards due to fissures at the Teton Dam north end as early as July 9 1975. The dam later failed on June 5 flooding the Upper Snake River Valley causing 11 deaths and about 1 billion dollars in damage. Officials note extensive grout work and water tests claimed the grout curtain would block leaks though the failure occurred.
