Disaster Help Available Here at Sandpoint Community Hall
After one day on the job at the Sandpoint Community Hall, about 26 applicants sought disaster aid. The three one day sessions run 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with local, county, state, federal and volunteer agencies assisting those affected by floods on January 31 and February 5. Civil Defense Director Bob Cramer warned county conditions were worse than preliminary Red Cross estimates.

Plans To Reopen Hewer And Keep Coal Mines In Idaho
Frederick C. Drumheller president of Idaho Lakeview Mines says plans are underway to reopen the Hewer and Keep Coal mines near Farragut State Park Lakeview. Sunshine Mining Company would operate the mines and has done geological work though no ore bodies have been outlined yet exploration continues.

Water Content Sets Snowpack Records at Schweitzer
Snowpack on Schweitzer ridge at 6100 feet averages 140 inches deep with 53.5 inches of water, the highest for January in ten years. At 4800 feet near the lodge, snow depth averages 93 inches with 32.5 inches of water, also a ten year high. Runoff from rain-rich precipitation in January pushed stream levels higher.
