Northern Idaho Declared National Disaster Area Officials Open Aid
President Nixon has designated Northern Idaho a national disaster area. Federal and state agencies will set up temporary offices in the Community Hall Jan 30 31 and Feb 4 to offer disaster relief including housing loans tax relief food stamps unemployment benefits and legal services. 30 to 35 families remain isolated and federal aid will continue until repairs and losses are addressed. Dick Buck will coordinate federal activities from Coeur dAlene.

Power Line May Cross High Drive Meeting Schedule Set
The Bonneville Power Administration plans three public meetings to discuss 975 draft environmental statements for a proposed new power line that would cross Bonner County along High Drive. No hearings are set in Sandpoint or the county. routes include a Montana to Spokane corridor and an alternate Lewiston to Spokane line. Norman A Gilchrist cited advertising in the Federal Register and noted hearings in Bonner County might have been possible but are not in this first phase.

Chris Robin Lyman, 20, was arrested by Sandpoint police on possession of stolen property charges after skis from the Alpine Ski Shop theft on January 11 were found in his possession. A second man is being questioned. About $14,000 worth of gear was taken through two rear doors.
