Worker Lives In Automobile in Chicago Winter
A 41-year-old laborer, Frank Brown, rents shelter by living in his 1959 Dodge and 1956 Cadillac on a Near South Side street. He parks the cars to avoid complaints, uses two cookers for meals, heaters for warmth, and sources water from hydrants or gas stations while working part time and claiming he does not need money. He travels between Seattle, Texas, and Detroit and cites saving about $600 yearly. He says Chicago has plenty of work and he hasn’t been broke since arriving.
