The Sandpoint Lions refuse the Jaycees challenge citing epidemic conditions and hazardous roads and state accepting the event would endanger public health and safety.
The Sandpoint Jaycees hosted the second annual snowmobile rally at North Shore Lodge with 55 registered racers from multiple towns. Winners across D C and A classes, plus powder puff races, were led by Pete Weatherford, Larry Krause, Ray Eller, and Miki Wick, with trophies totaling over 225 dollars.
Chet Howell president of the Sandpoint Jaycees announced at press time a baseball on skis game will be held tonight at Memorial Field starting at 7 30. Teams will be drawn from attendees and volunteers at the event.
The long awaited wrestling meet between undefeated Sandpoint and Coeur d Alene High Schools in the Panhandle League was postponed with other Bonner County activities due to illness related shutdown. The clash, expected to decide the league title, has been rescheduled to February 10 per SHS Coach Chuck Schoonover.

The Sandpoint High School girls P E department finally gains a balance beam built by Vocation Shop students under Jack MacHargue and Bill McDonald. Completed last week the beam meets Olympic competition specs and is in use under instructor Mrs. Pat Smith.
Worthy President James Stark announces Sandpoint Aerie 589 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles will celebrate its 66th year in the Grand Aerie on Sunday January 25. A 1 p.m. potluck dinner precedes a ceremony in which Coeur d Alene officers of 486 initiate the anniversary class of candidates.
Gov Don Samuelson received a House concurrent resolution passing by voice vote in both chambers praising the late David O McKay president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints The measure lauds his life and works as offering an example of Christian principles to Americans.
The Idaho Legislature enters its second week with education shaping the agenda. The Joint Finance Appropriations Committee planned to study supplemental education budgets, while officials rush impact figures after a State Supreme Court ruling banning school fees. Wayne York of the Idaho Education Association urged leaders to mediate teacher and trustee contract disputes as major educational reforms were discussed. The proposals include repealing the local revenue ceiling, creating a school district reorganization panel, redrafting trustee elections, and boosting the state superintendent’s salary. Nine inches of new snow blanketed the area, aiding ski conditions as roads remained open and sanded.
