Idaho declares five northern counties disaster area

Gov. Andrus signed a proclamation at 9 a.m. declaring Bonner Boundary Latah Benewah Kootenai Washington and Curtis counties as disaster areas under the governor and adjutant general. Flood evaluation led by Maj. Gen. Bennett with Brig. Gen. Trail conducting on scene work. Evacuations continued in Bonner County with Sandpoint hosting evacuees at the Community Hall and measures to prevent dam failure ongoing.

Bonner County Tax Valuation Rises Over Two Million

The 1973 assessed valuation totaled 30,582,749 up from 28,188,998 in 1972. Real taxes were 2,830,897.56 with 1,526,766.80 collected and 1,304,130.76 outstanding. personal taxes 117,240.63 with 99,546.59 collected and 17,694.04 outstanding. Real and personal abstracts show 15,141,316 and 713,825 respectively. Utilities and rail cars add 14,372,326 and 355,282 to the 1973 totals.

Church seeks release of 69 documents on oil and anti trust

Schools Closed in Bonner County District

Bonner County School District No 82 will stay closed for the rest of the week. Superintendent Dr Wayne E Likens cited hazardous roads and flooding as the basis for the decision and noted recommendations from the Board of County Commissioners and the Transportation Supervisor.

Knife threat forces victim to write check to juvenile

Mrs Stephen Van Horne of 317 S 2nd wrote a $40 check under duress after a juvenile threatened her with a knife. The incident was reported to police by the victim’s husband early last night.

Dr. David Beeson dissented favoring a Priest River attorney. Weather concerns linger as district closes schools due to bad roads and the board moves Jan 28 to a regular instruction day.

Man Charged With DUI After Parking Lot Crash

Howard Ketchum of 503 Cedar was charged with driving under the influence after his car struck a parked vehicle owned by Darrel Elvester of 710 N 5th. Police reports say the collision occurred yesterday.
