Well dressed thieves rob Pierre Hotel jewel stash in New York
Two thieves posing as guests gained entry at 4 a.m. and, aided by two accomplices, handcuffed 16 staff and three guests at the Pierre Hotel. They chiselled open safety deposit boxes and carried off about 1.5 million dollars in jewels, with some reports valuing the haul higher. Detectives scoured the scene as the city called it one of its largest hotel robberies. Police considered links to a Drake Hotel robbery on Christmas Eve and studied possible connections between the two cases.
