Recognition Given Adult Scouters at Selkirk District Dinner
The Selkirk District of Panhandle Council Boy Scouts held a Monday potluck at the Methodist Church to honor adult scouters Neebag ta of Sandpoint and others. Ron May presented service and training awards to scouters and Den Mothers. Wayne Goin and Tom Wilson received certificates for fundraising and conservation merit badge work. Vern Eskridge earned Scouter of the Year for nine years as Skipper of Explorer Post 100. Nadine Frankyi was named Lady Scouter of the Year. Audrey Valieres and Ozzie Valaries received District Chairman Awards, noted for 25 years of service. Don Largent gave a camping program.

Nixon declares emergency in construction industry
President Nixon declared an emergency in the construction sector and suspended Davis Bacon Act wage requirements on all federal projects. He ordered a wage and price freeze for the industry at least temporarily, citing sharp inflation and rising construction costs. Local Youth Wins Third in Elks Leadership Contest
Sandpoint High School student Mark Nelson earned third place in the State Elks Association Youth Leadership contest receiving a $100 prize. Local winners were chosen from 14 competitors at Sandpoint Elks Lodge 1376 with John Olson and Dave Winfrey placing second locally. Sherri Mitchel led girls locally with Carline Hamann second and Mara’d Connolly third from Priest River High. Awards will be presented at Spring Class Day by Exalted Ruler Robert Moore.
