Bonner County High Schools Get Accreditation Not All Cleared

All three Bonner County high schools received accreditation for 1976 77 from the Northwest Association. Clark Fork High School was placed on an advised status for numerous deficiencies. Priest River and Sandpoint faced facility and program inadequacies noted by the committee. Superintendent Wayne Likens said a new Priest River High School should fix many issues and the district will pursue removal of deficiencies before the next inspection.

Idaho Wildlife Federation rejects Greenley resignation call

At its annual meeting in Pocatello the Idaho Wildlife Federation defeated a resolution demanding the resignation of Idaho Fish and Game Director Joe Greenley. Delegates from statewide sportsmen groups backed the motion against Greenley but the committee and federation vote favored the director, citing adherence to commission directives and ongoing habitat fund projects.

Pack River high bidder named for Upper French Creek sale

Pack River Company of Sandpoint was the high bidder on the Upper French Creek timber sale, held by sealed bid February 17 1977 at the Idaho Panhandle National Forests Supervisor's Office in Coeur d Alene. The bid rose from 176 155.80 to 442 725.30 for 5680 M board feet of sawlogs in Sandpoint Ranger District. Major species include ponderosa pine Douglas fir and Larch with minor volumes of others. Louisiana Pacific Corp Moyie Springs and Brand S Corp Laclede were the other bidders.

High Speed Chase Ends in Property Damage

Joel G. Thompson an 18 year old of Sandpoint was arrested Friday night after a high speed pursuit that began in Kootenai and ended on North Boyer when his car hit a mailbox post causing about 1000 dollars in damage. He faced reckless driving charges and was released shortly after.

Sue Andrews of Garfield Bay reported to Bonner County Sheriff Deputies that her house was broken into Monday. Missing items include binoculars a suitcase and a fishing pole with no loss estimate provided.

Athol man shot after hit and run incident in Idaho

David Gunter of Athol Idaho was shot dead by Kootenai County deputies after allegedly threatening them with a pistol following a hit-and-run. Two men fled the scene. Gunter did not fire. His half-brother was arrested for leaving the scene. Deputies from Bonner and Kootenai counties responded.

Canoeist Missing as Search Is Called Off

Kootenai County Sheriff officers called off the search for canoeist Mark Jasma near Lake Coeur d'Alene after winds up to 30 mph swept the area. Jasma, last seen Sunday night on a canoe ride, is presumed drowned. his canoe was found beached near Cave Bay. An air and ground search failed to locate him.

Schweitzer Ski Basin pays workers with two dollar bills

Sam Wormington reports five inches of new snow at Schweitzer Mountain overnight, with light snow continuing. The ski area runs chair 3 and T bar 3 and may reopen more lifts as conditions are watched. Salaries will return to checks after the experiment.
