Southside School Reopens After Water Bacteria scare

Southside School in Cocolalla resumed classes after a two day closure caused by high coliform readings in the well. Panhandle Health officials said tests on Tuesday showed no traces of coliform in the water and the district plans to install a chlorinator for future problems.

Search Unit Sets Fund Campaign For English Bloodhound

The Bonner County Search and Rescue Unit plans a campaign starting Wednesday to raise funds for a registered English Bloodhound bought for 323 dollars, with most bloodhounds costing 1200 to 2200. The dog will enable 24 hour searches, and five field members are sought to join after passing a physical. First aid training begins next month, and two sheriff vehicles will aid the unit in operations.

Sandpoint Teen Driver Survives I-90 Lake Coeur d'Alene Crash

Alan D Addington 18 of Sandpoint and North Idaho College student escaped a pickup that went off an embankment on Interstate 90 east of Coeur d Alene plunging into Lake Coeur d Alene. He swam to shore and was treated at Kootenai Memorial Hospital with minor injuries after police located the submerged truck 100 feet below the lake surface.

Four Bonner County Residents Arrested on Marijuana Charges

Four Bonner County residents were arrested over the weekend for possession of marijuana. Starla G. Rigby, 20, and Rhonda K. Hanson, 19, both of Sandpoint, were taken into custody about 11:40 p.m. Friday and released on $50 bonds by Judge Quentin Harden. Two juveniles were arrested about 9:45 p.m. Saturday with bonds set at $250 each.

Stolen 17-foot yellow Viking canoe near Siemsen residence

A Kootenai resident reported a yellow 17-foot Viking fiberglass canoe stolen from the beach near the Siemsen residence. The vessel was valued at 500 dollars.

McClure To Speak At Sandpoint Luncheon

A Pentagon committee calls for military law use to punish future prisoner collaborations with the enemy. It notes that nine Vietnam POWs faced dropped charges partly due to publicity concerns about heroism.
