Sandpoint Mourns Moran Death of Local Pioneer
Thomas O Moran 79 longtime Sandpoint resident died Tuesday leaving a legacy as an electrical engineer and forest service Navy engineer who traveled the nation. He moved to Sandpoint in 1898 built the first west Sand Creek house and served the Forest Service Army Corps of Engineers and U S Navy before retiring in 1960. Moran learned to fly at 78 and earned his pilot’s license after five months of instruction with instructor Chuck Courrier. His son in law Dr Forest Bird renowned Lake Pend Oreille aviator. The community mourns a pioneer who shaped Sandpoint’s early years.
