As of January 30 the ridge snow pack near Schweitzer Basin Lodge measured 123 inches with 43.1 inches of water. The staff noted an average depth of 109 inches and water content of 36.3 inches. Water content runs about 20 percent above the ten year average.

Comprehensive Plan Slated for Sandpoint Discussion
The Sandpoint City Planning and Zoning Commission will continue discussion of the 20 year Comprehensive Plan at its regular meeting Thursday. Public copies are now available at the Sandpoint Public Library while a separate hearing will be held on the new zoning ordinances before adoption. Snow clogged roads forced Sandpoint area closures today while Priest River Clark Fork and Hope remained open. Superintendent Dr. E Wayne Likens said county crews need time to clear main routes and that if winds ease schools in Clark Fork Hope Priest Lake Idaho Hill and Priest River should operate tomorrow.

Costly search effort to find two skiers at Schweitzer Basin
A Monday night search for Todd McCormick and Dar Hart who failed to reach Baldy Mountain involved nearly 40 Schweitzer Basin crew members and snowmobiles. The operation, coordinating with Bonner County Sheriff and Winter Riders Snowmobile Club, ran through the night and back into Tuesday morning with lifts kept open and three Thiokol snow vehicles deployed.
