Telephone Co Pays Large Idaho Property Taxes

General Telephone Company paid over 395000 in first half 1969 70 property taxes to nine Idaho counties. Bonner County received 48730. The second half next June will bring total Bonner County taxes to about 97460. County tax total for the company will exceed 791689, up 27.5 percent from last year.

Local Boxers Do Well In Spokane Meet

Sandpoint Boxing Club coaches Karl Berg and Isadore Lefebvre took local youths to John Rogers High School field house in Spokane last Friday. Stephen Gance 70 lbs. lost by TKO after a collision knocked him down. Chester Schilling 105 lbs. won by unanimous decision. Dick Gance 127 lbs. edged John Hathaway in a split decision for Sandpoint.

Transplant Operation A Heart And Lungs At New York Hospital

A 43 year old man with terminal emphysema received a heart and lungs transplant on Christmas Day at New York Hospital. The 3 hour 13 minute operation used the heart and lungs from a 50 year old female donor. Both donor and recipient names are withheld per family request. the prior case was Dr Denton Cooley's Houston success with Debra Lynn Lee.

Boxing club aims to boost prep for Golden Gloves

State College coach notes Gance won the first two rounds but faded in the final round due to conditioning. Le febvre says Sandpoint Boxing Club is seeking better training quarters to improve performance in next year's Golden Gloves competition.

Dance Cancelled by Injectors Auto Club at Sand Point

The Injectors Auto Club announces the Saturday December 27 dance at Sand Point is canceled due to hall unavailability from a prior reservation. The Priest River Youth Center will host a teen dance the same night at the Priest River youth center from 9 30 to 12 30 with the Liverpool Five band.

Three Counties Receive Initial Pac Gas Tax Payment

Pacific Gas Transmission paid the first half of its 1969 70 property tax bill to Boundary Bonner and Kootenai counties totaling 454 607 61 dollars. Boundary 176 704 02 Bonner 156 378 61 Kootenai 121 524 98. New compressor stations Eastport in Boundary and Farragut in Kootenai will raise 1970 71 taxes.

Man Dies In Head-On Crash In Thama Rock Cuts

A two car head on collision on Highway 2 in the Thama Rock Cuts west of Laclede killed Bernal Oylear 50 Polson Montana and injured Barbara his wife and Ernest Belwood 22 Laclede Idaho. Investigating Idaho State Patrol officer Don Fiedler said both cars were demolished and traffic was halted over an hour.

Department Promotes Ivor Sies to Chief of Engineering

Ivor Sies Boise improvement supervisor for Idaho Fish and Game Department after nearly 20 years is promoted to chief of engineering, a new division created at the October Fish and Game Commission meeting. Sies joined in 1940 as a conservation officer and received a Shikar Safari International citation last year for his conservation work.
